EDUCATING L.A. ON ENVIRONMENTALISM

Mile 48 of the L.A. River has an interesting aspect and a prime opportunity to include an environmental education center.  This part of the river, my site, is a combination of hard bottom and soft bottom.  A quarter of my site is hard bottom where the rest is soft so the transition between hard to soft is a great learning opportunity in terms of environmentalism.  So I propose that we include an educational center for our environment here because of the intensive use it receives from natural ecology and the abuse it sees from the urban landscape.

In general the area is highly polluted but the soft bottom area is also home to many creatures such as migratory birds and squirrels.  What I want to add to reduce pollution is to include a series of water filters before the water moves to the soft bottom of the river.  Also a main concern is to get the community involved and actually appreciate the river more.
