I wanted my mile, 37, to address some of the key issues that we face as a species, which is part of an ecological community. As humans we have the ability to design our environment to accommodate us. In a global age we know that there are limitations to development, and development without restrictions in a finite amount of habitual space is an oxymoron. As designers of the future we have to remember that we manipulate behavior through our landscapes. Rennie Tang asked us what we thought the sixth park type would be in reference to Galen Cranz and Michale Boland’s article titled The Sustainable Park: A fifth model for Urban Parks. I don’t know what it would look like but I know it should embody a closed system design to change the perception that humans have toward their ecosystems.
