MILE 35: JULIA BAEK

first

Greening the Concrete

Mile 35 lies on a city, called Vernon. It is a city largely dependent on industrial companies and hardly any green is ever present. Majority of the population is Hispanic and usually Hispanic communities are very family oriented, therefore, mile 35 was designed to bring the community together. A bridge, park, community garden, filtering planters, light, and seating were designed to produce a space that is social, recreational, educational, and ecological. The design was focused on the lack of green space, the polluted air and water, and the loud noise coming from the freeway, sense of safety, and the beautiful scenery of the sunset.
