A Terrarium among Urban Confluence
The Terrarium among Urban Confluence intervention is a proposition that enables a change in people’s perspective about the industrial section of the river. The main intent is to create a connection between people of the community and the Los Angeles River while embracing the surrounding infrastructure and creating accessibility within the river segment. By using the existing Buena Vista Historic Bridge, a ramp will be extruded into the river in order to bring people closer to the section of the river and enable close visible access to observe a restored riparian habitat. The restoration of the river’s segment will be conducted through the installation of a permeable paver along the river bed and replacement of the concrete channel with soft bottom vegetation. The revitalized channel will restore an ecological riparian habitat that will become a home for wildlife and a center for environmental education for the urban community.
