Los Angeles river has lost it’s natural form and became urbanized. A place where used to be habitat for wild life and run freely is now confined in a concrete channel. In our project of LA river we had the opportunity to come up with a proposal for it. I wanted to have a design that would bring the wild life back to the river, connect the community to the river and add aesthetic qualities to it. I proposed to built bascule decks on the river in the channel. The decks can be tilted up if there is a chance of heavy rain and flooding. There will be portable planters on the decks for people to plant herbs, vegetables and whatever they desire. This will engage people more, will become a source of fresh food for community and also the wildlife. Plant material will add color and texture to the channel giving it a new spirit.
