Healthy Community: Connectivity + Permeability + Sustainability + Recreation
HEALTHY COMMUNITY: Connectivity + Permeability + Sustainability + Recreation
The LA River creates a 100 feet division running through North Weddignton Park and South Weddington Park. The existing conditions on both sides of the LA River where the parks end and would connect are similar. Both seem uninviting with innaccessible entrances, no ramps for the steep slopes, bare unstable soil, and dry vegetation. Through a series of trail loops extending over the river and connecting both parks the connectivity can be restored. Incorporating environmental educational opportunities through a Center for Environmental Education for the adjacent communities, both north and south of the LA River, with environmental workshops and community engagement to create environmental awareness. With an Outdoor Classroom Lab with native demonstration gardens for wildlife habitat restoration and permeable surfaces for water infiltration and collection.
