BRIDGING THE GAP
The first mile of the Los Angeles River is located near Canoga Park off Owensmouth and Bassett Ave. Analysis showed that this area is 70% residential, 20% industrial, and 10% schools. Most residential property is primarily apartments and there are no local parks for the residents to enjoy. Also, two schools are located along the first mile of the river one is Canoga Park High School and the other one is an elementary school that does not have a large play area for the students. After analyzing the site I decided that there is a strong need for parkland in this specific area. This lead me to believe that developing a garden bridge across the river to connect the schools and residential properties was a viable solution to creating more parkland.
